DJASSTA provides formerly incarcerated individuals with the skills and support they need to re-enter society and achieve self-sufficiency. DJASSTA provides innovative outreach, mentoring, training, education, job placement, wrap around services, collaborations, and has assisted over 1,200 individuals from Oakland. With continued support, many of these individuals have obtained and retained employment, remained free from incarceration, and have made positive steps towards family and community reunification.
The predominantly African-American and Latino Staff at DJASSTA are reflective of the service population. ATHEDCO strategically employs individuals from challenged backgrounds to help increase rapport and empathy, as well as provide positive role models of success. ATHEDCO has spent the last five years working with the formerly incarcerated and is acknowledged nationally as a leader in providing employment services to those returning home from prison.
